Selection of Roman face pots. Three face pots and a fragment of a pot. This type of pots have representations of the human face on their bodies and are usually found in cemeteries or in religious areas. This group of pots was found at the Walbrook stream area. It is thought that they may have been votive offerings providing general protection to the individuals who use them. It is not known what the faces are meant to portray - perhaps a human being, a god or a theatrical mask.
