Detail of a triangular iron blade with reinforced edge and eared socket. Found at Lower Thames Street, London. The handle is a modern addition. There was heavy fighting around London Bridge between the English and the Danes. This battle axe is part of a group of weapons that were found at the north end of the bridge in the 1920s. They may have been lost in battle or thrown into the river in celebration by the victors.
