Ceramic bowl: late bronze-age

© Museum of London

image details

Full image caption
Carinated bowl with an internally bevelled rim. The interior of the bowl shows traces of burnish. About a quarter of the rim is broken. This is a bowl of gritty fabric, black on the inside and red on the outside. There is a label attached on the ouside. This ceramic bowl was found in Combe Warren, Kingston-Hill, Combe, London. A range of thin-walled jars, cups and bowls replaced the earlier bucket-shaped urns. These vessels suggest that greater emphasis was placed on the preparation and presentation of food - perhaps as part of special feasts.
