Bronze neck-collar or torc of unsual flat form and broken into two pieces. This collar does not have a hinge so it would have been difficult to put on. This may explain why it is broken. This torc is decorated with a simple feather and ring-and-dot pattern. It was found in the burial site of the 'Harper Road Woman' in Southwark. Her grave contained both imported and local items and it shows evidence of a burial. Her burial site suggests that there was a mixture of old and new traditions. For example, althought most people were cremated at this time, there is evidence - the presence of iron nails around the woman's body - of the use of a coffin. The Harper Road Woman was 45 or 49 years old when she died and she was buried with her most prized possessions, among them a pottery wine jar, a bronze mirror and this neck collar.
