Knife with iron handle, slender blade, integral handle and ball finial. Knife making was one of the most important industries in London in the 16th century. A number of Londoners learned their craft of knife making by working in other countries. Knife makers perfected their technique into such a highly level of quality that Queen Elizabeth declared that it would be forbidden to import any knives from overseas. It was said at the time that the best knives were made in London.
