Reverse of the marble plaque depicting the head of John the Baptist on a plate. At the bottom of the plaque there is a carved ribbon tied in a bow. This example of carrara marble was originally painted. The head, probably knocked down from a canopy or altar screen, was thrown into a pit in Shoreditch.
