This tiara front or comb mount would have been the type of hair ornament worn by fashionable and wealthy women in London in the 1830s and 1840s.
It is made out of gold wire, stamped and pressed sheet gold. To this structure a great variety of coloured gemstones have been attached including amethysts, almandine garnets, peridots, aquamarines, chrysophrases, citrines, turquoises and pearls. They have been massed naturalistically to create flower stems, petals and flowers. The setting of the flat-cut garnets suggests English workmanship.
