Whipps Cross University Hospital is an NHS-run University Hospital.
An infirmary was built on 44 acres of grounds at Whipps Cross for the Leytonstone Workhouse. Construction started in 1900 and was completed in 1903.
By the end of World War I in 1918 the infirmary had started to become a general hospital and the name was changed to Whipps Cross Hospital.
