17th century stoneware Bartmann jug (also known as a Bellarmine) made in Frechen, Germany. It has been re-used as a witch bottle. It was found with a heart-shaped piece of felt pierced with pins and eleven nails inside. This would have been a charm to prevent witchcraft. The bottle is decorated with a bearded face mask on the neck and a rosette medallion on the body.
