This is a silver late Medieval or early Tudor Pilgrim badge of St. Thomas Becket. He was the Arch Bishop of Canterbury from 1162 to his death in December 1170. You can clearly see the letters S and T on the badge. He was made both a saint and martyr by both the Roman Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion. He engaged in conflict with Henry II of England over the rights and privileges of the Church and was assassinated by followers of the king in Canterbury Cathedral.
The badge was found at Vintry House in Upper Thames Street.
