Stave Hill is in a 5.2 acre ecological park, adjacent to Russia Dock Woodland, in the area of Rotherhithe. Much of the park is what used to be the Stave Dock of the Surrey Commercial Docks, which was filled in during 1984 and then redeveloped by the London Docklands Development Corporation. Much of it is now an ecological park, a nature reserve close to the centre of London. Landscaping of the park began in 1986 and has been managed since 1988 by the Trust for Urban Ecology.
