PLA tackles river pollution, July 1950. Silting, sewage, industrial and electrical plants all created river pollution and raised water temperatures. Here, Mr Leonard Betts, River Purification Officer takes a sample for investigation. Hot water can be a danger to health, through raising the general temperature of the river and encouraging growth of the more harmful bacteria.
