From the Poultry to Bishopsgate Street and to Whitchapel, bird's-eye view, 1889. This bird's-eye view shows Whitechapel's proximity to the banking halls and exhchanges of the City of London where financial deals were struck and world prices fixed. Will Crooks, a local politician, questioned how it was that the sun that never set on the British Empire never rose on the dark alleys of the East End.
