In 1888 the newspapers began to speculate about the identity of Jack the Ripper. From witness statements, descriptions were prepared and circulated to police forces and indirectly to the public through the press. This illustration shows a man with a long, sharp knife saying "THIS WILL DO FOR THEM!!", the title at the bottom of the illustration reads, 'IS HE THE WHITECHAPEL MURDERER?'.
