The White Hart public house, Bethnal Green Road, circa 1900. Groups of women were often to be seen standing on the pavement outside pubs in the East End. It was more respectable for women to drink outside. Here, four women, with elaborate hats, chat to each other, one with a baby in her arms and another looking after two children. They have placed their beer glasses on the ledge of the pubs window. This pub is now called the Star of Bethnal Green.
