Paintings owned by Somerset Maugham are auctioned at Sotheby's. Auctioneer Mr Peter Wilson, director of Sotheby's, led the sale of 35 paintings owned by writer Somerset Maugham. Potential bidders, celebrities and the media crowded into the room for the auction. Art critic Douglas Cooper and ex-president of the Royal Academy Gerald Kelly were also there. Within around 50 minutes, the auction took £523,880.
