Circular brooch. Silver, set with shaped specimen plaques of variously coloured and marked coral limestones, possibly from Devon. A very unusual example of English 'showcase' hardstone work, demonstrating the fascination with geology in the 19th century. This highly skilled hardstone working is usually associated with Scottish jewellery at this date.

1839 AD - 1841 AD
