Hammersmith Suspension Bridge. A pencil drawing, by Joseph Nash, of William Tierney Clark's chain bridge across the Thames, the first of its kind built in London. Note the massively rusticated piers which support the Tuscan archways. The bridge cost over £45,000 and was opened to the public on 6th October 1827. It was replaced in 1884-7 by the present structure.
