Invitation to a Sketching Club. A watercolour by Paul Sandby depicting group sketching, by candlelight, in a domestic interior (36 Great Pulteney Street). The model is dressed as a Roman gladiator. This item is accompanied by a doggerel poem dated 26 Feb 1753, written by Sandby's brother Thomas and the invitation is addressed to a Mr Forrest (who is probably the lawyer Theodosius Forrest, friend of Hogarth and solicitor to the Covent Garden theatre).
