John Harriott, Esq. A stipple engraving portrait of John Harriott with his biographical details. Engraved by Page after H. Herve, possibly from 'The lives of eminent and remarkable characters in the counties of Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk, London'. Originally reproduced as frontispiece in Harriott's, 'Struggles through life', London: printed for the author by C. and W. Galabin, in 1807 in two volumes. According to the descriptive text: "[Harriott saw in 1759 in New York] "a market for the sale of white people ... poor emigrants from Europe, chiefly Irish, who had given the captain the power to dispose of their labours for a term of years in order to pay himself for their passage"..."he purchased a young Irish female... [he] restored her to her friends"
