The North Germany exhibits, Great Exhibition, 1851. Chromolithograph. The German stand exhibited a number of objects like the ones seen on this image like carriages, clocks and candelabra for example. Queen Victoria visited the North German exhibit on 19 May 1851. She commented in her journal on the meagre display, which she attributed to 'that foolish Protectionist feeling, which will do no one but themselves harm.' The display typically included a miscellaneous assortment of raw materials, manufactured goods and works of art.
