A man's waistcoat with stand collar and no sleeves. Fronts of ivory silk satin, back of fine twill weave cream wool. Fronts embroidered with brightly coloured silk threads in an all-over stylised sprig pattern. Border design at the collar, closing edges, hem and pocket flaps incorporating a band of satin stitch in alternating green and brown, and a band of embroidered net mounted over purple silk worked in coloured silks and with leaves in chenille thread. Larger scale floral pattern at the pocket flaps and below these to hem which is then surrounded by vermicelli of French knots in brown and tiny pink floral sprigs. The outline for the design is visible in blue ink underneath some of the embroidered flowers. Cut with seam at centre back and short vent, and short vents at side seams. Lined with cream coloured plain weave cotton.
