Old and new London Bridges. This view looking south contrasts the new bridge on the right nearing completion with the old bridge on the left, with its many arches and its roadway packed with pedestrians and vehicles. Cranes, derricks and winches, used to lift the large stones, are positioned at regular intervals along the new bridge. Despite this, there is a significant degree of manual labour involved.
