Barnet Fair was a long-established annual event held in September. Drovers would come to the huge horse fair to sell their animals, and the London City Mission would come to conclude its open-air preaching season. Photographed by the missionary and amateur photographer John Galt, followers of the London City Mission are grouped together singing hymns and children of the Gypsy horse drovers sit on the ground in front of them. This photograph was one of many that Galt produced to show conditions in the East End and the work of the mission.
