Two summer hats for a woman. The upper hat is by Adele. It has a deep crown of loosely woven straw in black, yellow, white and coral, trimmed with a band of black velvet ribbon. Construction is from a hand-made plait stitched together ramaille method. The material is probably Ramie fibres glued into a tape and the tape wrapped in Cellophane. Date c.1920-1924. The second hat is a navy blue straw or plant fibre plaited and machine stitched hat by Sunson. The cloche-shaped crown has a narrow brim made in one. The bottom of the crown and top of the brim are encircled with striped ribbons plaited and arranged in lattice work design. At the back of the brim is a rosette of navy blue silk ribbon, extending into streamers. Date c.1925-1928.
