A birds'-eye view of Kensal Green Cemetery. The Grand Union Canal can be seen in the background. The view is not of the cemetery as built and is probably linked to the architect, John Griffith's early plans for the cemetery c.1832-3. Allom was apprenticed to another architect, Francis Goodwin, but had shown interest in cemetery design. It is entirely feasible that he produced this watercolour for Griffith as a realization of his plans for a cemetery laid out with a patte-d'oie, gate house and chapel.
