Old and new housing, Cathall Road Estate. The original Cathall Road estate, Leytonstone, was built in 1971 to include two tower blocks, Redwood and Hornbeam, alongside low-rise blocks. Residential campaigning led to a successful regeneration plan that was initially controlled by the Waltham Forest Housing Action Trust. New terraced housing was built alongside and in place of the older buildings. This photo was shown as part of an exhibition focusing on estates and social housing, Tower Blocks: Love Them or Loath Them, held at the Museum of London in 1999.
