London Bridge. Proposals for Warehouses in Southwark close to the new London Bridge, 1834. By the early 19th century, London was Europe's largest and busiest trading centre, with products from all over the world. Although the largest warehouses were sited in the docks, others in the City of London and Southwark stored all types of goods. There were vast quantities of textiles from the North and the Midlands, tea from China, and general cargo and foodstuffs shipped from the continent and coastal ports.
