The Elephant & Castle on the Brighton Road. A coloured aquatint depicting a melee of coach traffic at the Elephant & Castle on the Brighton Road, including a coach and four flying past with one rider to each pair of horses, a 'fly van', stage coaches between London and Bognor and London and Brighton, a covered wagon and a coach going to Vauxhall. The pub offers 'Neat post chaise', and next door is Levy 'clothes saleman - old wardrobes bought'. A signpost points to 'London Bridge one mile' to the left, Kennington, Kingston and Croydon to the right, Lambeth towards the viewer, and Rotherhithe and Greenwich away. Two dogs are playing in the foreground while locals draw water from an open barrel.
