Man's overcoat made from a patterned wool fabric. This fitted outdoor coat was known as a surtout great-coat. It is made from a particular type of high quality worsted fabric known as Norwich stuff. Worsted is a fine wool fabric woven from long-staple wool which has been combed through before being spun into yarn. Norwich weavers were famed for the excellent quality of their fabrics, distinguished by their fine finish and diverse patterns and colours.
