Cavalry flags used as screen panels. Oil on silk. Two of a series of four panels belonging to a set of civil war royalist cavalry cornets. Each panel has three images and accompanying motto. These images depict a series of scenes of the Retribution inflicted on the Army Generals seeking ultimate power - the Crown, which is destined for a future King. Gen Monck, as Mars waits with drawn sword in the cause of justice. Flags like these ones would be attached to a lance and carried by a cavalier. Each flag represented a troupe of horse.
