Monstrosities of 1827. Coloured etching. Satire on the fashion plate published at the time as well as on extravagant costume. This etching shows a crowded promenade just inside Hyde Park Corner. Both female and male costumes are grotesquely pinched on the waist and inflated on the sleeves. The women's hands are absurdly small and elegant, as are their feet. The women are also shown wearing hats with huge brims, and towering crowns, trimmed with feathers and floating streamers.
