A City Shower. Oil on canvas. A maid showers a male passer-by by shaking her dripping mop on the pavement. 'Such is that sprinkling which some careless Quean/ Flirts on you from her Mop, but not so clean/ You fly, invoke the Gods; then turning, stop / To rail; she singing, still whirls on her mop...'. This is a scene from Jonathan Swift's 'Description of a City Shower', first published in 'The Tatler' on 14-17 Oct 1710.
