The chairman of N M Rothschild and Sons. Every day at 11.00am, 'gold fixers' at N M Rothschild and Sons would fix the world gold price. The firm began the fixing, which took only a few minutes each morning, in 1919. This is the chairman, Mr Hawes. The firm had recently moved into new buildings at New Court, St Swithin's Lane. In 2004, N M Rothschild and Sons left the gold market, ending the morning tradition.
