Weights training at the National Recreation Centre. Boys on the Southern Counties Amateur Athletics Association (A.A.A.) Young Athletes' course lift weights. Their four-day course was held at the brand new National Recreation Centre at Crystal Palace. Costing around ?2,750,000, the sports centre was built on the site of the 1851 Great Exhibition. It had facilities for all athletics events, from the track to the swimming pool. The 'Brutalist' designed Centre was given a Grade II listing in 1997.
