Guy's Hospital. This poster relates to the fundraising appeal for Guy's Hospital. It conforms to a standard design used for all the appeal's promotional material. Fundraising events included flag days, charity balls, fairs, bazaars, carnivals, ballroom dancing competitions, concerts, exhibitions and sporting events. The campaign also included London's first aerial, 'skywriting', adverts. The poster shows a colour image of the main courtyard of Guys Hospital and the title in red 'Guy's Hospital, SE1'. Part of the Hospitals of London Combined Appeal, which began in 1922. The appeal was designed to restore funds that had been exhausted during the war. London had 127 hospitals in the 1920s, all of which carried out their work with no public income beyond voluntary donations. This poster shows its original 18th century building in St Thomas Street, Southwark.
