Front cover of Wild's Handy Pocket Guide to the Principal Sights of London. The guide includes an image of Wild's Temperance Hotel in Ludgate Hill. John B Wild was a member of the temperance movement that campaigned against the evils of alcohol. He founded a chain of 'alcohol-free' Temperance Hotels in London. This guide was produced for guests. It was intended to be 'indispensable to a stranger that he may enjoy his holiday, and at the same time prevent his being victimised by those who are perpetually seeking to entrap the unwary'.
