Elliptical silver medallion with a suspension loop and purple silk ribbon. Elliptical silver medallion with a suspension loop and purple silk ribbon. Arthur Mundy was awarded this medallion after successfully completing his student training at the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge (SPCK). He attended the society's Training College for Lay Workers in Stepney. The college educated working class men as lay readers so that they might spread Christian knowledge amongst members of their own social class. Arthur Mundy was originally from Godalming in Surrey, and was brought up as a Wesleyan. As a teenager he converted to the Church of England. After training with the SPCK, he went on to attend the Church Army College in Blackheath, where he met his future wife who was one of the domestic staff there. He left the College in 1914 and then worked for the Church Army until he was conscripted for World War I in 1916.
