Private telephone exchange. This telephone switchboard was used at Buckingham Palace. Operated by a trained telephonist, it connected both external and internal telephone calls. All areas of the Palace with a telephone connection are listed on the switchboard including the Ceremonies Office, the Billiard Room and the Ambassadors Entrance. Also labelled are the personal extensions of household staff and members of the Royal Family including the Housekeeper the Queen's Page, H.M. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. External connections include the Prime Minister and other royal residences such as Balmoral Castle and Sandringham.
