Distiller's label stamps. M Chaikin & Co ran a kosher wine-making and distilling workshop and an off-licence. The family firm used these wood and brass stamps for labelling bottles of kosher wines and spirits. The Hebrew letters spell the word 'kasher' (kosher). The alcohol was bottled in the workshop in a basement on the corner of Brick Lane and Fournier Street, Spitalfields. Its off-licence was at 72-74 Brick Lane. The company supplied London's East End Jewish community with kosher wines and spirits for nearly 80 years. The workshop and distillery closed in 1976.
