Iron and enamel hip bath. Enamelled white interior, with one tap missing. This hip bath was used at the Camberwell Resettlement Centre, Peckham. Nicknamed The Spike, the centre housed the homeless from the mid-19th century until its closure in 1985. It was one of the largest hostels for homeless men in London, offering shelter to 1,100 each night.
