Mechanical penny toy figure of boy and dog. This mechanical penny toy, a lithographed tinplate figure of a boy holding a scrap of meat above an excited dog, is operated by a spring-loaded lever. When pulled, the lever raises the dog onto his back legs as the boy moves backwards. Made in Germany by Johann Phillip Meier, a prolific manufacturer of tinplate toys, it was bought by Ernest King from a London street trader on 2 December 1905.
