Weighing scales and weights. This pair of weighing scales, with a set of eight, four and two ounce weights, were used in the North Cheam and Whetstone branch of Woolworth's for weighing sweets. When Woolworth's first tried self-service for confectionary in 1953, it intended to stop selling pic'n'mix sweets, offering pre-packed bags instead. This did not catch on and the idea was dropped. In 1958 the company launched the pic'n'mix counter, which formed the basic design for the smaller stores for the next 30 years.
