Handbill - Cries of the Tortured, 1914
The Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) used the issue of forced feeding to attack the government.
This handbill discusses three women imprisoned for arson attacks. All three undertook hunger strikes. Kitty Marion, released in April 1914 after 14 weeks imprisonment, endured 232 forced feedings.
This emotive propaganda leaflet, issued by the Women's Social and Political Union shockingly describes the force feeding of hunger-striking suffragette prisoners. It was intended to shame the government and raise public awareness of the daily torture faced by those fed by force.
