A group of 'Mods' outside a cafe in London. The name came from the word modernist and became associated with young, popular fashion which broke away from the more formal fashions of the 1950s. Young people had disposable income for the first time and spent their money on clothes and music. Men's fashion for Mods usually consisted of smart suits, tight trousers and shirts, neat turn ups, styled hair and outfits were always carefully colour coordinated.
